THURSDAY 21ST MAY  CHILLINGTON HALL AND GARDENS          Codsall Wood WV8 1RE
There have been Giffards at Chillington since 1178 and the present Georgian House is the third to have been built upon the same site. It was built between 1786 and 1789 primarily by a young Sir John Soane and the interiors are spectacular.
The landscaped park and lake to the south of the house were designed by Lancelot “Capablity” Brown during the 1760’s and a Grecian Temple was erected close to the pool.
Our visit will begin with tea/coffee and biscuits followed by a guided tour through the various ground floor rooms and covering subjects such as the family history, the Hall’s architecture and information on the furnishings and artwork. Once the tour has ended we can explore the gardens around the Hall at leisure.
Location: Chillington Hall lies between Brewood and Codsall Wood. If using SatNav it is better to enter from Port Lane, Brewood rather than using the postcode.
